A lot of things can happen in a lot of places, but Berlin has the highest chances of weird, off-the-walls shit happening anytime and anyplace including at your local super market or favorite currywurst stand. One of the reasons why I love this place is its wild and gritty nature, but beware when touring around with your grandfather.

There’s an invisible script that many LGBTQ+ travelers instinctively follow: scan the streets, read the room, and calculate if it’s safe to show affection to the person you love.
Fabio and I are so used to protecting ourselves like this, and we often get asked why we don’t show more affection on the streets. The truth is, breaking those old survival habits takes real work.
That’s why we love Pride. It creates a space where we can finally drop the fear.
@csddresden was no exception. The energy and community reaffirmed exactly who we are, and that miracle from nature at the very end of the day felt like a sign that our joy belongs here. 🌈

Did you know that in just over an hour from Berlin, you can be in Poland?

This is Słubice, right on the other side of the river from Frankfurt an der Oder (not the other Frankfurt ;)). Just take the regional train from Berlin Ostkreuz or Hauptbahnhof to Frankfurt an der Oder, and then walk your way through town across the border. There are a few nice restaurants and cafes, which makes a little day trip worth it in our opinion (although we think Szczecin further north is a prettier town with more to see).

And thank you to @TessanOfficial  for powering us on this journey! Their new ultra light-weight, slim 009 can charge an iPhone to 50% in just 30 minutes, works in 200+ countries, and has 4-in-1 charging capabilities… this definitely came in handy when we were on the train and only had one outlet free.

So for those in Germany that need a break from German food, this is your cue to take the train to Poland.

We Left Berlin For Lunch… and Ended Up in Poland?!

Save this short for your next trip to Germany! Berlin doesn’t have a monopoly on the queer scene… Dresden’s alternative Neustadt neighborhood also has a good number of LGBTQ+ venues.

Here is the exact map of where we went on our Neustadt pub crawl:
- BOYS Bar: The ultimate neighborhood staple. Super welcoming, very mixed, and a great place to start the night. Also does some karaoke!
- Saxxim: Located on the lively Görlitzer Straße. It’s the main LGBTQ+ hub on the strip with amazing staff and dangerous cocktails.
- Bar Valentino: Your go-to spot if you want a cozy, classy, and chill early night (probably actually best to start here)
- Pick Up: If you’re looking for a venue that’s a bit more adventurous and cruisy.
- BUNKER: Take the tram across town if you want a dedicated space to further fulfill your cruising fantasies (leather and fetish club).
- 🌈 Pride Party: Despite the name, this actually happens every few months, but if your timing aligns with Dresden Pride, it’s an absolute must. There are three dance floors and just a nice venue to hang out and meet people.

Dresden Has a Gay Scene?! 🇩🇪

The motto of this year’s CSD Leipzig was:
KEINE RUHE, KEIN ZURÜCK… QUEERE RECHTE STÜCK FÜR STÜCK!
(No rest, no turning back… queer rights, step by step.)

Leipzig has always been a resilient city. In fact, it held what was the former East Germany’s (GDR) very first Pride back in 1992.

Now, over 30 years later, 20,000 marchers took to the streets…. and despite the rising threats, there is no way in hell we are going backwards. 

We were so happy to be a part of this year’s Leipzig Pride 💕.

Why Leipzig’s Pride Parade Felt Entirely Different 🇩🇪

If your nervous system is currently destroyed from Berlin, consider this your sign that Germany actually has quiet nature… like everywhere.

Fürstenberg/Havel is only 1 hour north on the RE5. It has lakes, canals with canoes, incredibly polite cafe staff, and a floating fish-sandwich boat. We tried to find something to complain about, but we failed. 🤷‍♂️🛶
