After hours on the road, dust still caked on us from Sahara, we were on the verge of hallucinating. But tucked just outside the chaos of Marrakesh, we found it: an oasis.

felt like a dream…lush gardens, the sound of frogs at night, an art collection from all over Africa, sunrise and sunset views, and a hammam that erased every trace of desert heat. The interiors? All soft light, carved doors, and corners made for slowing down. Plus, the team is kind and the place is safe and inclusive.

A version of Morocco we’ll be dreaming about for a long time.

In the 1950s, this Moroccan port city became a hidden queer sanctuary. Not because of progressive laws, but because it existed in legal limbo, an international zone where outsiders lived between the lines. 

Writers like Capote, Ginsberg, and Burroughs flocked here for the freedom they couldn’t find at home.

Today, politics have changed. The queerness is quiet and almost non-existent on the surface. But the legacy is still in the walls of cafés, bookshops, and rooms where history was written.

What cities will we fight to keep? And which ones will slip away in silence?
