Let’s take a day trip to Putrajaya, Malaysia 🇲🇾, which might go into the books as the "World's Most Random Day Trip".

This city just a short journey from our current home base in Kuala Lumpur! Renowned for its striking modern architecture (and post-Islamic architecture), the country's biggest mosque, and impressive government buildings, Putrajaya surprised us with its charm and grandeur.

In this vlog, we share our first impressions of the city (after getting caught in a rainstorm) and highlight some of its must-see sights. Is This the Real Malaysia? Putrajaya Vlog (With Subtitles) 🇲🇾

We went up to Hokkaido (北海道) for the last leg of our Japan 🇯🇵 trip and were completely blown away. We have traveled a lot, so giving the title to Hokkaido as 'one of our favorite places in the world 🏆' was no easy endeavor, but it soon shot up to the top of the rankings. 

Watch as we explore Sapporo, as well as central Hokkaido (Furano, Biei, Mount Asahidake, etc.) using only public transportation 🚌 and….beach cruisers 🚲. Throughout the 5 day itinerary in Hokkaido we come across breath-taking nature, best karaoke friends, onsens galore, foot blisters, and...hokkaido cherry blossoms (which we were too late for in other parts of Japan). 

In conclusion: Hokkaido is pure bliss 😍.

We’ve spent weeks traveling through China (中国) … and what we ultimately found feels less like today, and more like tomorrow.

At the heart of our journey is Chongqing (重庆), a neon-soaked, vertical maze often called the world’s most complex city. But what we saw here is not unique to Chongqing. From high-speed rail zipping across provinces to cashless living in every corner of the country, this future-facing reality is happening all across China.

We very rarely used cash. Hotels, metros, taxis, and street food all paid for with just a scan. Apps like WeChat and 美团 (Měituán) don’t just connect people...they power daily life. It’s cashless, seamless, and shockingly futuristic.

And behind the neon glow? The electrostate: a nation fueled by solar, wind, and hydro. The future isn’t coming to China, it’s already here. The skies are clearer, the energy is greener, and skylines from Chongqing to Shanghai shine brighter than ever.

We Traveled to the Future — It’s Actually China 🇨🇳

This is our take on the ultimate Kazakhstan road-trip experience. From Almaty we headed to Kolsai Lakes and ultimately to Charyn Canyon on a 3-ish day road trip. This journey could not possibly be categorized as "easy travel" thanks to language barriers, 💩-ing in holes, and actual fear at times on the road,  but it was freaking memorable.

We Found China’s Most Relaxed Megacity (Kunming) 🇨🇳

We’ve officially left Yunnan (云南) and arrived in Chengdu (成都), the spicy, panda-filled capital of Sichuan Province (四川省). But before all the panda bears, we made a stop at one of the most absurdly massive buildings we’ve ever seen: the New Century Global Center (新世纪环球中心).

Often cited as the largest building in the world (by floor area), this megastructure is basically a mini-city under one roof, complete with a gigantic mall 🛍️, an indoor ice skating rink ⛸️, a full water park 🏄, and even multiple hotels. Oh, and did we mention the endless escalators?
Our verdict? It’s enormous, strangely empty, and capitalism at its weirdest. We got lost, found an ice rink, nearly wandered into a luxury hotel, and spent a weirdly peaceful afternoon in one of the most surreal places in Chengdu.

Kuala Lumpur: The Most Underrated City in the World 🇲🇾

On our final stop in Yunnan (云南), we head to one of Ryan’s favorite places in China: Dali (大理) … often nicknamed “Dalifornia” for being one of the most relaxed, free-spirited destinations in the country that many of the young people of China are moving to.

Ryan has visited Dali multiple times before, but as always, this city full of charm still had some surprises in store. For Fabio, this was his first time in Dali, and it blew his expectations out of the water. 

Together with our sassy friend Adrian, we explore the rich Bai (白族) minority culture, take a “hike” up the scenic Cang Mountain (苍山), and discover ancient villages like Xizhou (喜洲古镇) and Zhoucheng (周城村), both full of traditional Bai architecture and local life. 

We also take you along for a scenic bike ride around Erhai Lake (洱海), visit the famous Three Pagodas (三塔), and check out Dali’s thriving hipster scene…from quirky bars and eco-farms to quiet corners where creatives and retirees have found their haven in modern-day Dalifornia.

The Hike That Made Us Question Everything (Tiger Leaping Gorge) 🇨🇳

After crossing back into China from Vietnam, we didn’t head to another megacity… we discovered Guangxi instead.

Our journey started in Nanning, China’s “Green City”, where parks, lakes, and subtropical nature blend with modern life. From Qingxiu Mountain and the Longxiang Pagoda to the Guangxi Museum of Nationalities, this first stop revealed a quieter and lesser-known side of the country.

Then came Guilin — a short stop before boarding one of China’s most iconic experiences: the Li River cruise.

Sailing through dramatic karst mountains felt surreal, and arriving in Yangshuo opened the door to slow countryside travel, scooter rides through rice fields, hidden villages like Jiuxian, and unforgettable evenings with friends.

This episode is not about big attractions, but about rhythm, landscapes, and learning to travel China slower.

Back to China 🇨🇳 Hidden Guangxi, Li River Cruise & Yangshuo Countryside

I don’t think we had ever experienced a city of such scale until we arrived in Chongqing (重庆), China. That first night, walking along the Yangtze River (长江) and peering into the distance at the massive bridges (桥梁) with trains flying by and the enormous illuminated buildings behind them, we realized we had landed on a city that felt from another planet.

In this video, you’ll join us as we wander up and down the endless hills of China’s mega-city, try the famous Chongqing hotpot (重庆火锅) and almost regret it (not to mention what happened the next morning), explore bustling pedestrian streets filled with local shops and street food, take the cable car over the Jialing River (嘉陵江), and finally enjoy a night cruise to wrap everything up.

Chongqing is known for its unique mountainous city layout, skyscrapers (摩天大楼), nightlife (夜生活), and delicious Sichuan cuisine (四川菜). Whether it’s walking through the Ci Qi Kou ancient town (磁器口古镇), experiencing the Chaotianmen Dock (朝天门码头), or enjoying panoramic views from Nanshan (南山), Chongqing truly feels like a city unlike anywhere else in the world.

Note: We mention that it’s the biggest city, and by that, we mean biggest city proper. Chongqing spans an area bigger than Austria, yet it is all considered one city, making it technically one of the most populous cities in the world.

Another note: Chongqing is called the 'Foggy City', and while we experienced a bit of natural fog, the majority of what we experienced on the days we were there was smog (the AQI hit 450). Sorry if we sound negative in the video, but we don't like sugar coating things.

Inside China’s 32 Million People Megacity 🇨🇳 Chongqing

While we were in Kunming, Yunnan, China, we came across stories about a so-called “ghost city” in the Chenggong district. Built between 2003 and 2012, Chenggong was meant to be a brand new urban hub, but when hardly anyone moved in, it quickly gained the reputation of a ghost city. Naturally, our curiosity got the better of us. So, we hopped on Line 1 of the Kunming metro and headed straight to Chenggong to see if that eerie reputation still holds up.

Does Chenggong still feel abandoned? Or has it finally come to life? Let’s find out.
