If you’re in Athens and looking for something truly local, hop on the hourly boat from Piraeus to Salamina (Salamis). Just 45 minutes from the port, Salamina is its own little island, often considered just a suburb of Athens. But trust us, it’s special.

For three days, we only heard Greek on the streets, soaking in the authentic vibe. Salamina boasts decrepit windmills, wildlife galore (think lemons, endless trees, and turtles!), and one of the most decorative monasteries we’ve ever seen. 

Explore battle monuments, relax on €1 beach chairs, and dive into blue waters that seem to peer into your soul. And don’t miss the cheap tavernas with copious wine 😏.
